Written to refute the pernicious but widely peddled falsehood that ‘There is no such thing as a Palestinian people’, Dimbleby’s account is illuminated by searing photographs taken by the peerless Don McCullin, who travelled with the author. Together they reveal a richly diverse people with a strong culture who are united by a longing to return to their homelands. Reflecting on today’s horror story, Dimbleby forecasts that, without a ‘two-state’ solution, the soil of Palestine will be soaked in blood for generations to come. A tragedy too terrible to contemplate.
